Vibram Five Fingers Sprint
The barefoot running movement has taken hold, having gone from a seemingly nutty concept to a borderline-religion almost overnight. The thinking behind it, is that for all the advances in running shoe technology, there hasn’t been a decrease in running-related injuries. Increasingly popular, some go so far as running marathons barefoot – and stand by the results.
At the forefront of barefoot running is the Vibram Five Fingers shoe. Bizarre in appearance, it looks like the combination of a sock and a glove with individual toe slots. The top of the shoe is a quick-dry, stretch fabric and the sole resembles a gorilla’s foot. The overall look? Amphibious. Where running shoes often promote an unhealthy heel strike, the Vibram Five Fingers promotes the more natural forefoot strike, relying more on the balls of your feet. The benefits? Strengthening foot and lower leg muscles, reducing stress to your heel, improving balance and posture. Yes, posture. Which means if you’ve been 5’11 all these years, and you stand up straighter with these shoes, hello 6-feet! Well.. Maybe not.. but you get the idea.
